Connecting Threads. Embroidered Narratives from Afghanistan and the Diaspora
26 Sep 2026 — 28 Feb 2027 at Forschungscampus Dahlem
· Berlin
How can memories be preserved when home is lost? What stories inscribe themselves onto textile surfaces when experiences of migration, exile, and cultural transformation become visible?
The exhibition "Verbindende Faden" examines embroidery as a cultural practice — as a form of memory, resistance, and identity. Works by Afghan and diaspora artists reveal how traditional needlework carries personal and collective histories across borders, adapting and transforming in new contexts while remaining rooted in shared heritage.
