Sofie Dawo. Textile Experiments
17 Jul 2026 — 17 Jan 2027 at Kunstgewerbemuseum
· Berlin
Sofie Dawo (1926–2010) was an exceptional artist whose unconventional artistic strategy consisted in the refinement of fabric through destruction. With this radical approach, the process of making was inscribed directly into the object itself, and the unpredictable — the "emerging" — became a defining element of her work.
Dawo's textile experiments challenge conventional notions of craft and fine art, pushing the boundaries of what woven and textile materials can express. Her practice embraced chance, transformation, and the visible trace of intervention, resulting in works of striking formal and conceptual originality.
