We encounter sculptures far more frequently as images than as physical objects. Photographs shape our gaze on plastic art and determine how we perceive, remember, and understand it.

The exhibition Photography Tells Sculpture makes this shift in perspective visible: it brings together sculptures and their photographic representations to reveal the complex, often overlooked relationship between the two media — and to ask what is gained, and what is lost, when a three-dimensional work is translated into a flat image.
