Diego Rivera's America
Drawing on works from collections across the United States and Mexico, the exhibition explores Rivera's lifelong engagement with the landscapes, peoples, and histories of the American continent — from pre-Columbian civilizations to the industrial age. Paintings, drawings, watercolors, and studies are brought together to illuminate the breadth of his vision and the depth of his political and humanist convictions.
SFMOMA holds a special place in Rivera's legacy: the artist created his celebrated fresco cycle for the museum's original home, the San Francisco Art Institute, and later worked in the city on several landmark commissions. This exhibition reaffirms Rivera's enduring connection to San Francisco and his central role in shaping a distinctly American modernism.
