Sightlines: Photographs from the Collection
6 Aug 2022 — 7 May 2023 at San Francisco Museum of Modern Art
· San Francisco
Sightlines: Photographs from the Collection brings together a rich selection of works drawn from SFMOMA's extensive photography holdings. Presented during the 2022-23 season, the exhibition invites visitors to consider how photographers — across generations and traditions — have used the lens to define a point of view, construct meaning, and illuminate the world around them.
From documentary and street photography to conceptual and fine-art approaches, the works on view trace the evolving language of the photographic medium. The title "Sightlines" evokes both the literal lines of vision through a viewfinder and the broader idea of perspective — how we see, what we choose to look at, and what remains just out of frame.
