The Crown of Kerch. Treasures from Europe's Early History
19 Oct 2017 — 22 Sep 2027 at Neues Museum
· Berlin
Gold jewellery from the Migration Period found along the Black Sea coast, silver dress-brooches, and magnificent belts excavated from early medieval graves in France, Italy, Spain, and Germany — parts of the Johannes von Diergardt Collection are coming back to Berlin for the first time in over 80 years.
The exhibition brings together exceptional examples of early medieval craftsmanship, shedding light on the artistic and cultural exchanges that shaped Europe during the turbulent centuries of the Migration Period. Rare and finely worked objects tell the stories of peoples on the move and the networks of trade and influence that connected distant regions of the continent.
