The Mechanical Christmas Mountain from the Erzgebirge

One of the highlights of the permanent collection at the Museum Europäischer Kulturen is a mechanical 'Weihnachtsberg' (Christmas Mountain) from the Erzgebirge region, created in the 19th century. Across an area of 15 square metres, more than 300 figures bring to life the most important episodes from the life of Jesus, from the Annunciation onwards.
