We Tried to Warn You! Environmental Crisis Posters, 1970–2020
28 Sep 2023 — 25 Feb 2024 at Poster House
· New York City
This 2023–2024 exhibition at Poster House brings together decades of graphic design dedicated to one of humanity's most urgent challenges: the environmental crisis.
Spanning fifty years of poster art — from the first Earth Day in 1970 to the climate emergency debates of 2020 — the show traces how artists, activists, and designers used bold imagery and urgent messaging to sound the alarm about ecological collapse, pollution, deforestation, and climate change.
The works on view reveal both the persistence of environmental advocacy and the evolving visual language used to communicate it, raising the uncomfortable question of why, despite so many warnings, the crisis has only deepened.
