The Utopian Avant-Garde: Soviet Film Posters of the 1920s

25 Feb 2022 — 21 Aug 2022 at Poster House · New York City
This exhibition at Poster House brings together a remarkable selection of Soviet film posters from the 1920s, a decade in which avant-garde artists transformed the humble promotional poster into a vehicle for utopian vision and political energy.

Working in the aftermath of the Russian Revolution, designers embraced dynamic compositions, bold typography, and striking geometric forms to capture the spirit of a society reimagining itself from the ground up. The result was a body of work that remains among the most visually arresting graphic art of the twentieth century.

The show offers visitors a rare opportunity to examine these works up close, exploring the intersection of art, propaganda, and cinema in one of history's most turbulent and creative periods.
