Schoolgirls at War: French Propaganda Posters from World War I

20 Oct 2022 — 16 Apr 2023 at Poster House · New York City
Presented at Poster House in 2022–2023, "Schoolgirls at War" examines a striking body of French propaganda posters produced during World War I. The exhibition explores how the figure of the schoolgirl was mobilized in wartime visual culture — as symbol of innocence, national resilience, and the future of France — while also shedding light on the real experiences of young women during the conflict.

Through vivid lithographs and printed ephemera, visitors are invited to consider the intersection of childhood, gender, and state-sponsored messaging in one of history's most turbulent periods.
