Roy Lichtenstein

22 Aug 2026 — 14 Mar 2027 at Kunstmuseum Basel · Basel
This exhibition celebrates the work of Roy Lichtenstein (1923–1997), one of the defining figures of American Pop Art. Known for his bold graphic style, Lichtenstein drew inspiration from comic books, advertising, and mass-produced imagery, translating them into large-scale paintings that challenged the boundaries between fine art and popular culture.

His signature use of Ben-Day dots, thick black outlines, and primary colors gave his canvases an immediately recognizable visual language. From his early comic-strip paintings to later explorations of art history, landscape, and sculpture, Lichtenstein's work remains a landmark of 20th-century art.
