Queer – Diversity is in our nature

9 Apr 2021 — 19 Mar 2023 at Natural History Museum of Bern · Bern
"Queer – Diversity is in our nature" is a temporary exhibition at the Bern Museum of Natural History that challenges conventional ideas about gender and sexuality by looking to the natural world for answers.

From clownfish that change sex to female-female albatross pairs raising chicks together, nature is full of examples that defy binary categories. The exhibition invites visitors to discover how diverse sexual behaviours, gender expressions, and reproductive strategies are not human inventions — they are deeply rooted in the animal kingdom.

Through immersive displays, scientific specimens, and interactive stations, the show makes a compelling case that queerness is not an exception but a natural variation — one that has existed across species for millions of years.
