no existe un mundo poshuracán: Puerto Rican Art in the Wake of Hurricane Maria is a major group exhibition at the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York. The show brings together works by Puerto Rican artists that grapple with the catastrophic impact of Hurricane Maria, which struck the island in September 2017, and the complex social, political, and cultural conditions that shaped — and were reshaped by — the disaster.
The exhibition title, drawn from a line of poetry, translates roughly as "a post-hurricane world does not exist" — a declaration that there is no clean break, no simple recovery, only a continuous reckoning with loss, resilience, and identity. Through painting, sculpture, video, installation, and works on paper, the artists represented refuse easy narratives of tragedy or triumph, instead offering layered, personal, and politically charged perspectives on what it means to be Puerto Rican today.
