Napoleon and the Sea, a Dream of Empire

from 1 Jan 2004 at Musée national de la Marine de Paris · Paris
This temporary exhibition explores Napoleon Bonaparte's complex and ambitious relationship with the sea. From naval strategy to colonial dreams, the show sheds light on a lesser-known dimension of his reign — the vision of a vast maritime empire that shaped his military campaigns and political decisions.

Through maps, artefacts, paintings, and historical documents, visitors are invited to discover how the ocean figured in Napoleon's grand imperial project, from the ill-fated Egyptian expedition to the decisive Battle of Trafalgar.
