Mexica - Offerings and Gods at the Templo Mayor

3 Apr 2024 — 8 Sep 2024 at Musée du quai Branly · Paris
This temporary exhibition at the Musee du Quai Branly invites visitors into the sacred heart of the Mexica civilization. Through a rich selection of offerings and divine figures unearthed at the Templo Mayor — the great ceremonial temple at the center of ancient Tenochtitlan — the show illuminates the religious beliefs, ritual practices, and cosmological vision of one of Mesoamerica's most powerful cultures.

The Templo Mayor served as the axis of the Mexica world, a place where earth, sky, and underworld converged. The objects on display — votive deposits, sculpted deities, ceremonial vessels, and precious materials — reveal the extraordinary complexity of Mexica spirituality and the central role of sacrifice and offering in sustaining the cosmic order.
