28 Sep 2024 — 19 Jan 2025 at Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar · Alkmaar
From 28 September 2024 to 19 January 2025, the Frans Hals Museum, Teylers Museum, and Alkmaar Museum join forces to present a major retrospective dedicated to Maarten van Heemskerck (1498–1574), one of the most significant Dutch painters and draughtsmen of the sixteenth century.

Spanning three venues, the exhibition offers visitors an unprecedented opportunity to explore the full breadth of Heemskerck's career — from his early portraits and altarpieces to his ambitious prints and drawings inspired by his formative journey to Rome. Each museum contributes its own perspective, making the show a rich, multi-layered experience that rewards visits to all three locations.
