Inside Other Spaces. Environments by Women Artists 1956-1976
8 Sep 2023 — 10 Mar 2024
Inside Other Spaces. Environments by Women Artists 1956-1976 is an exhibition at Haus der Kunst that brings into focus a largely overlooked chapter in the history of immersive and environmental art. Spanning two decades of radical experimentation, the show presents environment-based works created by women artists between 1956 and 1976 — a period that saw the boundaries between sculpture, installation, performance, and space itself pushed to their limits.
By centering the contributions of women artists, the exhibition challenges established narratives of the postwar avant-garde and reveals the depth and diversity of their engagement with space, the body, and sensory experience. Visitors are invited to step inside works that transform the gallery into a field of encounter, reflection, and discovery.
