2 Jul 2022 — 17 Feb 2025 at Metropolitan Museum of Art
· New York City
Embracing Color: Enamel in Chinese Decorative Arts, 1300–1900 is a long-term exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, on view from 2022 to 2025. The show explores the rich history of enamel techniques in China across six centuries, from the Yuan dynasty through the height of the Qing imperial workshops.
Through a diverse array of objects — including cloisonne vessels, painted enamel wares, and champlevé pieces — the exhibition reveals how Chinese artisans absorbed foreign influences and developed distinctly Chinese aesthetic traditions. Vivid color, intricate patterning, and exceptional craftsmanship are central themes, illustrating the prestige these objects held at court and beyond.
