Beyond Form: Abstraction at Midcentury

Featuring 65 artists from more than 23 countries, this exhibition explores how abstraction emerged as a powerful visual language between 1940 and 1970, a period of global upheaval and transformation.

Drawing on works from across Europe, the Americas, Asia, and beyond, the show traces the diverse and often parallel paths through which painters, sculptors, and printmakers broke free from representation — responding to war, ideology, and rapid social change with new forms of visual expression.
