Arnulf Rainer
from 13 Nov 2026 at Albertina
· Vienna
This exhibition presents the work of Arnulf Rainer, one of Austria's most influential postwar artists. Rainer rose to international prominence through his distinctive practice of overpainting — layering gestural, often frenetic brushwork over photographs, reproductions, and his own earlier canvases to create works of raw psychological intensity.
The show offers visitors an opportunity to engage with an artist whose career has spanned decades and whose restless experimentation has continually pushed the boundaries of painting, photography, and self-portraiture.
