This temporary exhibition shines a light on Albert Edelfelt (1854–1905), one of the most celebrated Finnish painters of his era, and his remarkable journey through the artistic capitals of fin-de-siècle Europe.
Edelfelt was among the first Nordic artists to achieve international recognition, forging a successful career in Paris at a time when the city was the undisputed centre of the modern art world. The exhibition explores how he balanced his Finnish identity with the cosmopolitan demands of a European artistic career, moving between studios, salons, and social circles that defined the age.
Through paintings, drawings, letters, and personal documents, visitors are invited to discover the man behind the celebrated works — his ambitions, friendships, and the everyday realities of a modern artist's life at the turn of the century.
